Just stayed at the Royal Palms Resort in Phoenix. Booked two rooms through Amex and both were upgraded the day before arrival (I asked when I called to confirm). Additionally, they included the spa credit and breakfast credit for each room on our final bill at check out ($260 total value). Also, I did not pay with my Amex on checkout, used another form of payment.

The hotel was great, dining was superb and the weather was perfect. I highly recommend this hotel.

FYI the upgrade was from the base room we booked (parking lot view), to a similar room with porch seating opening up to a view of the resort fountain area.
