I'd usually not wait on getting "the next" Mac. If there is one really good thing about Apple machines, it's that they hold their value VERY well. Even after 6 months you can usually get away with a minor loss when selling it.
I'm a simple man, with simple needs and it's a company purchase. No rush....my 4 yr iBook (using it right now) is just fine, running panther 10.3.9
