Why? No to be callous here, but as many other posters have said, there is no emergency once the person is dead.

As far as other pax flying w/ a dead body, as soon as the person expired, they were already flying with a dead body, so that deal is done, regardless of how much people are creeped out. I guarantee you that whether they had landed in MIA or not, the first thing all of the PAX who were bothered would say is something long the lines of "I had to fly with a dead body!" better that alone than "AND I had to get diverted to MIA! (lost time, etc)"

This is America, so there would probably be a lawsuit either way (regardless of how the events leading up to the death were handled, and specifically related to the corpse on board).

I think AA probably did the right thing here (once she had passed, anyway)
