I too don't know why people trash UA @ LAX so much. Unlike most, I don't even mind the RCC - I find it leagues above ORD/IAD.
On both my check-ins in January for FRA, most kiosks were out of commission and there were only two agents working behind the counters actually tagging checked bags. The lines were chaotic with passengers waiting to use kiosks while those who had already used them clustered in front of them waiting to be called for luggage tagging...not letting new arrivals get to the kiosks other than by elbowing their way through. There was no agent patroling the area to help move passengers along to kiosks that were available but "occupied" by the afforementioned passengers waiting to pass their bags along.

This was between 2p and 3p on a Thursday and Friday respectively. While the security line of the Friday moved more quickly, it still took 20-minutes to get to the head of it. On the Thursday, it took almost 45-minutes...I know because there were not a few 1Ks who grumbled about how bad the situation was.

As for the general appearance, and my original reason for starting this thread, the UA premium check-in area is more like a barn than an area to great and help your best customers. While I don't expect the same situation as one would find at HKG or SIN or other Asian airports for premium customers (elites and full fare paying Cs and Fs), I do expect something better than a cattle holding area. I make my comments as a STARGold and not just as a lowly UAPremier.
