But by no means give up the original ticket stub.
As for the online missing points form, I find that it can be hit or miss. The fact that your ticket came from a source other than Amtrak may very well be causing part of the problem.
Yikes. I have done this with an unposted trip -- but even more complicated.
The ticket was bought and collected before a schedule change occurred, and printed with a 7.15am dep time. The train time was then changed to 7.05. I got to the station in time but didn't see the train on the departures board, so I went and asked and they explained about the earlier departure (which I had just missed). The agent printed me another ticket for the next train at 7.17am, with which I ran to the platform and just made it.
Unfortunately, after I was on the train I saw that the reprinted ticket had neither my name nor my AGR number on it (both in the original booking, of course). The conductor didn't mind whose name the ticket gave when I mentioned this, and had no idea what I was worrying about when I asked anxiously about getting my AGR points.
As expected, the points never posted, even after the 3weeks or so. So I sent in the ticket stub with a letter explaining the situation, along with my original itinerary purchase printout.
No reply yet from Amtrak: how do I ensure I get my base and bonus points? I will miss out on several hundred points for just this one trip if I don't get them posted, since I received triple (targeted) and double (fall promo) points at the time.
