Actually, there is full-service buffet style pre-flight supper available. You have to keep in mind that you were there in the afternoon, before any supper service would have been available... as these pre-flight supper services are geared towards sleeper flights departing in the evening. and to echo jjpb3's thoughts- you do have to hold a BA boarding pass to gain access to the supper area.

i was actually at the terraces lounge at JFK just last night. flew into LHR out of JFK at 2030. the lounge was very nice, elemis spa treatment was heavenly.
couldn't help but to pop by the arrivals lounge at T4 this morning for a second helping of elemis services.
