) The JW Marriott had no issues if we needed to check-in early. No charges and if they had the room available, they would let you in early. The IC CityStars has a very complete chart on the partial day charge they will apply if I check in before 4:00pm. It is a teired charge based on the number of hours early.
most hotels (MI and others) get it, it really depends on what the hotel's occ level was the night before your early arrival - it the hotel has a large group which isn't departing until checkout time it would be fairly difficult to grant early check-in's - if it's an airport hotel though it's typically easier as guests start departing earlier than non-airport hotels and in larger numbers etc
