Anyone know the current rules for when AP miles expire?

I seem to remember that AP introduced a rule that they would expire after a period with no activity, either earn or spend. How long is this?

But I also seem to remember this rule was possibly going to be relaxed for overseas, ie non-Canada accounts. Is this true?
