I agree with you on the word "hate." I try limit it to actions, such as I hate going through airport security (sorry, couldn't resists).
Your point is right about using the word "hate" towards people.
As for what the TSAer said to the pax....there's a little sarcasm in what that TSAers said. You should be able to pick that up.
