IME ATL has not been near as bad as some others (ORD, JFK, LGA) in terms of delays due to traffic congestion. ATL has the advantages of the new 5th runway and other runway improvements that allow planes to taxi to gates more quickly. Of course, when the weather turns bad then all bets are off as the systemwide chaos that delays at ATL can cause are pretty ugly.
ATL doesn't ever seem that bad to me (but I've thankfully avoided it in bad weather), especially compared to JFK. It does seem to take a long time to actually get to a gate from the runway, but we're always moving, which is nice.
Also, I bet that back passage on the end of one of the ATL runways (that dips underneath another runway) helps keep the planes moving nicely, too. Are they adding these passageways to any of other runways?
