Various options are being considered and discussed with the PANYNJ because some of the options will affect other carriers and terminals......DL is well aware of the issues with T2/T3, and nobody wants to be rid of the mess more than DL....whatever it is though, it will take time.

I for one don't mind JFK as much as others seem to. It's an older airport and much like older ball-parks, isn't as nice as some of the newer complexes built, but carries with it some nostalgia. The new BE/FC/Medallion check in area in T2 works just fine. Connecting between T2 and the gate 6 in T3 (the other side of the universe), is a good 10 minute walk but that's about it. There are areas where it opens up with wider spaces and yes there areas were walk paths are too narrow. If you know your way around, you can avoid the worst bottle necks (back of T2). Typically I fly out of JFK for long-hauls to either the west coast or Europe. I leave enough time to not sweat through security and end up walking around a bit, something I don't mind before sitting for 5+ hours. For those departing in the afternoon and evening on a domestic route, the BE lounge in T2 doubles as a Crown Room so if you need a quick bite, BE fare is available (although it can go quickly). And if you are traveling outside the US, JFK's duty-free in T3 is way, way better than E concourse in Atlanta.

If you have to fly out of JFK and can't avoid the 5-7pm time slot, get comfortable in your seat and catch a nap as your aircraft lazily taxis to take off. If you are in FC, enjoy an extra cocktail (don't load up in the CR). If you are in BE, top off that champagne, read a good book, check out your in-flight movie options and learn how to work the seat.

I fly to get from point A to point B. JFK worst just fine for that. Sure I would like the luggage to come out faster (don't hold your breath) or that they re-open the roof-top parking lot (what would it take to do that in this day and age) but outside of that, there are worse places to fly in and out of.

I don't mind JFK either, but only for mainline. I will never fly Comair out of JFK again.

Regarding Delta's moves; I wonder how effective they will be if other airlines don't take any such action at JFK.

New York, Newark, and Philadelphia airports are a mess. Far too many planes. One problem is that if a carrier cuts back on frequencies, another carrier steps in and adds more flights. On several occasions, the pilots have announced that congestion in the air in the region delayed the flight, even though a particular airport that day was not too congested. If possible, I avoid connecting at PHL, JFK or Newark.

IMHO, this move on DL's part is ameliorative and all, but honestly, this is not going to dent the problem of ATC delays into and out of JFK.

The airport is just not designed to handle the traffic (A/C-wise and paxs-wise) that it sees on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis. The entire NYC region is over taxed and is getting worse.

These additions to the JFK schedule are all with "big planes" but think about it: what kind of planes are providing the traffic into JFK to fill the big planes? Small little planes.

OK, so no more props. Yeah, and? You've still got 150 50 seaters coming in every day. A 50 seater takes up as much room as a 777 or a 747, regardless of the company sending them in.

Is AA going to do this? Or US, or UAL, or NWA? They might remove their props too, but the traffic issue will not diminish until they build more concrete, seriously control traffic flow, or build another airport in the NYC area.

Personally, I plan at least 2-3 hours transfer time in JFK. That is a minimum that I will continue to use regardless of time of year.

Cheers.

as with some others here, living in the NY area for over 23 out of the 27 years of my life, I don't mind JFK/LGA that much. As a New Yorker, like many out there, we have just accepted the fact that we have what we have. Nothing we can do about it and if we need to fly (as much as I and others do)...deal with it hehe

I for one have ranted in the past about the decrepit and backwards nature of Terminals 2/3, but I have to say I'm very impressed that DL has made great strides in improving the experience.

I've flown medium haul Florida flights, transcons and several international BE flights in the past year, and T2 has actually become quite nice! Check-in is a breeze in the new premium area (security so quick, the line so short, I have no time to take off my shoes and end up slowing down the few people behind me).

The shopping in T2 is quite diverse; my wife was able to find, of all things, "Thomas the Tank Engine" toys for our 3-year-old twin nephews. Who'd have imagined a toy store at an airport?

A recent arrival through customs was painless. And has anyone tried the BizElite arrival concierge service? With advance security clearance, you can have a car drive right into the secure customs area and have a concierge escort you right to it.

The byzantine maze that is T3 is still kind of a mess (Why do you have to walk ALL THE WAY around the building to access gates 4-6? What's with that ridiculous wheelchair ramp?)

But all in all, I'm impressed!
