Agree with all about the award usage on ANA, but where did you get the idea that the NRT-SFO 744 flight will be a non-suite aircraft.
Even United doesn't know internally until about four days before which aircraft is going to be on a given route, and reservations doesn't find out until the night before.
Since UA is converting all of the 744s to First Suite layouts (by when is always a fun question), I don't think you can assume that your flight from NRT to LAX will be non-suite, and I know you can't assume it will always be a non-suite aircraft.
