In my scenario, the risk (not getting the bonus because the folio is closed incorrectly) outweighs the rewards, so I cancelled ten upcoming nights at Marriott and moved to a Hilton property which was offering triple points (open to all, no credit card restrictions). Over $3k in hotel revenue lost for Marriott. Marriott did tell me Visa is sponsoring this promotion, so I guess that's one of the reasons, but they need to consider the ramifactions of these restrictive, targetted promotions.
