Funny, I always read it that you could choose 1 trip from each of the three routes - to/from Perth, Broome and Darwin but never put it to the test.
Rightly or wrongly Mileage Monkey is happy with
BNE-PER-DRW-SYD-BME
1: LAX-BNE: intercontinental
2: BNE-PER: 1st of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
3: PER-DRW: 2nd of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
4: DRW-SYD: 3rd of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
5: SYD-BME: 4th of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
6: BME-SYD: surface
7: SYD-LHR: intercontinental
8: LHR-LAX: intercontinental
Congratulations!! Valid itinerary!!! - (31165 miles)
While the mileage monkey is an excellent tool it is still just that a tool that is not 100% correct all of the time.
While you may have thought you can choose from each of the three routes listed there is nothing in the rules or in people's experiences as reported on this board that would support that conclusion.
