Expect to see lots of new faces at your local CTO.
This afternoon I was speaking with one of my favorite agents at my local CTO. She sadly informed me that after the first of the year she'd be returning to the res center and that only one of the four agents currently at the office would still be there.
This is a result of the recent union election. The union is insisting that the CTOs be switched from company assignments to the bidding process, based on seniority. Due to her seniority (10 years) the only CTO available to her was about 50 miles from her home, so it's back to the res center for her.
I'm trying not to prejudge the results, but it's difficult. The one agent that is remaining takes 45 minutes to issue even the simplest of tickets.
According to insiders a lot of airport gate agents with high seniority are bidding for the CTO jobs. All shifts are 9 to 5, you never have to work on Sunday and the offices are closed on major holidays.
Couple this news with the apparent demise of United Connection 3.0, and the "Friendly Skies" have some awfully dark clouds on the horizon.
Just think Premex... your favorite LAX gate agent may soon be smiling at you across the counter at your local CTO
