I'm guessing this coincides with an A380 on the direct MEL-LAX service and an A332 on the MEL-AKL-LAX milk run. Allows QF to keep roughly the same capacity as 2 x 747s on the route, yet allows a 744/744ER to be deployed elsewhere on the network. Also would mean an all Airbus route!
