Thats what you get if you hire bsaeband engineers to design acoustics

FWIW the Treo 650 has/had similar volume issues which could be remedied by a third party app. I used that program with my Treo and it worked pretty good. It did come with a warning that damage could occur to the unit if you used the "MAX" settings (which I never did), but it did boost the call volume noticeably.
