The 'out' time that you see is generated from onboard the aircraft when the boarding door is closed AND the brakes are released. The crew is paid from 'out' time until 'in' time.....which occurs when the brakes are set AND an aircraft door is opened.
The company would like for us to not release the brakes until the aircraft is ready to start taxiing. About 100% of the people I work with would like to start getting paid when the aircraft is full of people and they are responsible for their safety.......
