This is correct. Delta.com is stupid and doesn't let you put a WP number in at purchase.
You can have it inserted by calling or e-mailing, but won't be able to confirm that the number is in until checkin. Or you can just wait until checkin and plug the number in online, at the kiosk or with
a human agent at the airport.
Why they take it during OLCI but not purchase is beyond me.
