Is WorldPerks interchangeable with Delta SkyMiles

Greetings,
I'm a Worldperks member booking a flight on Delta. And while signing up for SkyMiles I noticed they are partners with Northwest. Do I still need to sign up for Delta SkyMiles?

Thanks

You certainly can join both FF programs, but it should not be explicitly necessary. Your flights on NW will earn miles on DL and vice versa, HOWEVER, NW flights do not get "segment" credit on DL and vice versa.

And the two accounts are not combinable. You are far better off picking one of the two and always using that account number on either airline.

I have another question -- how do you assign your WP number to your Delta itinerary online? I've looked everywhere and can't figure it out.

Thanks!

It can't be done through the DL website AFAIK -- you have to call in or update your info at the airport kiosk.

It CAN be done if you buy your DL ticket through Expedia, etc.

This is correct. Delta.com is stupid and doesn't let you put a WP number in at purchase.

You can have it inserted by calling or e-mailing, but won't be able to confirm that the number is in until checkin. Or you can just wait until checkin and plug the number in online, at the kiosk or with a human agent at the airport.

Why they take it during OLCI but not purchase is beyond me.

It doesn't matter if you wait until check-in since you can't get an elite upgrade anyway, right?

If you will continue to fly NW most of the time, stay on that program. If you will be flying DL most of the time join. NW elite status will not get you FC upgrades on DL.

Right. When I fly DL, I just give them my WP# at the check-in counter.

I flew Delta with my Northwest Worldperks number last week. I called Delta and had it added to my reservation. I was able to confirm preferred seats at the same time, so that is an advantage of doing it in advance (I originally had middle seats, was able to move to window). I boarded with zone 2. The miles were credited to my WP account within a couple days of each flight.

MikeMpls or other of our Delta experts, I was under the impression that the third party sites didn't allow the NW no. for a Delta flight either?
