The problem is remote viewing.
Slingbox tech support says it is because i do not have a static IP and that ISP must provide it. Cablevision says it is not avail and if I switch to RCN they say yes but 15$ per month.. Is this the only way or am I doing something wrong or not understanding this..
Someone at Slingbox told you wrong. Most homes do NOT have static IP's. The slingbox finder will find your IP address. That's it's function.
You need to have port forwarding set up properly on your router. On mine as an example, I use port 443 and I have a Linksys router WRT54G. Port forwarding is under the Applications and gaming tab, then under the port forwarding tab. My settings are: Application: Sling Start: 443 End: 443 Protocol: TCP IP address: 192.168.1.237 and "enable" is checked
