Your points are interesting, and also the previous one about travelling alone and being in the F seat to avoid the middle passenger going past you to get to the aisle, as they are likely to be travelling with the person sitting in D. This all makes sense. My son is booked on QF10 SIN MEL next year. I would think this flight would normally be pretty full, but the "downstairs" point of view is starting to make sense.

And after saying all I did about upper deck vs lower deck, I have pre-selected 16K for MEL-LHR. But 16K on a 3-class config is the only upper deck seat I like. 16A is better on the 2-class config. If I can't get that seat, then I was happy with the 24F I had as a backup. But of course I hope to be in Zone A on that flight anyway, freeing up 16K for some fortunate soul who asks nicely at check-in
