I have several times used my basic green Amex for auction purchases of over $40,000 a time. Dead simple as long as you phone in advance - they put a prior approval into your account. It can also be done on VISA, as long as you pre-pay most of the sum intended into the account so that your limit and the funds cleared pre-pay match the debit.
Rick Damelian Motors on the Pacific Highway has HEAVILY promoted credit card payments on luxury cars for at LEAST 6 years. Anyone who thinks a luxury car dealer can't wear a 1.5% card fee on a new BMW or Merc is not living in the real world.
A bizoid allowed to buy a $125,000 BMW as part of his employment package simply signs for the charge and then banks that day a company check for the $125,00 into his card account. Company has cheque butt stating "BMW company car for Mr Smith - Rick Damelian Motors". All the figures balance. Nothing shifty is being done.
Only difference is, Mr Smith has a
round trip Concorde award via his 125,000 QF miles.
THAT never goes onto his assessable income, nor is it taxed in any way.
