I've been through Qatar a couple of times recently, including two days ago, with no incident. Of course, I didn't have anything that could be confiscated. I'd be surprised if nowadays they confiscated religious materials. Don't know about alcohol, but if I recall correctly they have duty-free for inbound passengers in which they sell it.

I cannot speak to Kuwait, but alcohol is banned in the country, so it's a fair bet that you can't bring that in legally.
