I'm with you PART of the way. Fully flat beds I seem to be fine with (AC's revamped Business class is great!) but I'll take a recliner over an angled flat bed any day.
I flew on AZ recently and there was the slim chance that I'd get a seat on one of their revamped planes (with angled flat seat), oh how I dreaded the prospect, Thankfully, this never came to pass. And although the seat was a little too firm around the lumbar region I slept soundly throughout, even through the constant turbulance. In contrast, my experience on ANA (angled flat) was rather painful, and my sciatica had gotten worse by the time I flew AZ.
I loved my experiences on UA in Business and on bmi. Unfortunately with bmi, they are taking out their lovely recliners quite soon and replacing them with angled flat beds
The upshot is that the old recliners will be moved to premium economy. There'll be a drastic loss of recline (there was even a manual over ride system that allowed you to make these chairs go almost completely flat), but I'd happily sit in premium economy over Business any day (even though the onboard cook provides some of the best catering in C).
