This person is correct. For stays booked through third parties (Expedia, Priceline, etc) they are technically not eligible to earn night credit, points, or elite benefits.
FYI the above is not correct...you can book retail rates via the above, I believe what you were trying to say is "Wholesaler" rates were not eligible to receive night/point credit regardless of how they are booked
