It's been taking longer for me to connect recently. When that icon appears, clicking it doesn't do anything of course... I just have to wait for the applet to load.
One item to note is that I can no longer access chat via my work network, it never loads and I have the exact problem Starwood Lurker reports. My workaround is to disconnect from my network and use the free wireless signal I can grab out my office window.

Well, that might it be it. I'm trying to get it to load at work. Plus, I will now quit trying to click on the applet to get it to load when trying at home.
