I stayed here twice and have never stayed here again after my last experience. I prefer the Westin Michigan Avenue instead when I need to stay downtown Chicago.
Long story short - was on a business trip. Cell phone batter died in the middle of a con call. Used the hotel phone (River North property) for the last 10 minutes of the call (Domestic/US). Charged $141. The front desk would not "budge" on the charge. My company (at the time) did not reimburse outrageous charges like that. I had to get *wood involved to get the charges reversed to something "practical." Not worth the hassle factor and the fact that the hotel saw nothing wrong with the charges.
I've since stayed at the Westin Michigan and for quick meeting days at the Sheraton Suites at O'Hare.
I don't understand why if you're unhappy with a property (and especially in a huge city like Chicago) you (not the OP, just the "royal you") would continue to give them your $ when it's such a poor experience. It's all about choices as a wise friend of mine tells me

Choose to stay somewhere else.
