The worst part of either commute would be the I-95/Route 128 section. Route 2 and Route 3 you'd be a 'reverse commuter' and traffic shouldn't be too bad.
Where in Boston are you?
Brookline, MA near Coolidge Corner area.
To get to Burlington (where I once worked before), I found out that Storrow Drive (exit through BU-bridge) and 93N then 128W was much better than 1) Rt 9 direction Framingham then 128, 2) Route 3 via Cambridge and Alewife (shortest path) 2) I90 (Brighton Exit) to 128.
I assume that Storrow to 93N would still make more sense because 93N is usually quiet smooth. 128E or W is pretty bad during any point of the commute.
128S to Route 3 North is probably going to be quiet bad, I only had 3 exists to get off where I worked before (Burlington) and it was at least 20 minutes to get out.
