why not simply leave your wallet in the pocket of your coat when you put your coat in the bin. i do it all the time and have never been questioned about it. wallet (& other goodies) in pocket of outermost garment-outermost garment removed-outermost garment in the bin-done.
That is the most logical method and the method I use.

Empty your pockets into your jacket/briefcase/carry-on well before the checkpoint and then "re-constitute" when you are clear of the checkpoint.
