It takes a bit of additional planning.
If you are blue and uk you might want to look into moving your address.
Do the flights and tier points accordingly so that you either retain silver early before you go down (which I would advise) or make the flights so you can keep it (what is your exact status?).
You will gain some bonus miles but as you are flying first, you already have all the benefits otherwise - I would calculate this out.
Assuming you start everything as blue. Make sure you hit truely silver. And then have some time before you do your next flights. Adjustmenttime of a week should be okay (or not?)
The next flights then you will be silver and work from a reseted value towards gold (which might be already a reason to retain it now!).
Once you hit gold tier points ahem - I actually do not know if it resets again to zero? help here please.
In the meantime I would also calculate the smaller hops with good tp for getting status on BA and have a look at using the same flights for gaining status with AA - you might get more redeemable miles out of it and just need some special attention at the airport as in registration with silver/ gold by ba but crediting it towards AA.
