Absolutely agreed. I would only charter if there is no commercial option available. Chartering will always be more expensive. We do a lot of chartering for our film crews, only because we need to get a big group to a small airport where the commercial service simply doesn't provide enough seats.
We could bring people in a day early but the day rates we pay our crew are far more expensive than the cost of chartering a flight.
On the other hand, given the size of the wedding group and the number of seats available IAH to Wichita, there may simply not be any choice.
If you have to charter, I would go with a big turbo prop, that's always going to be cheaper, even though you'll be paying for more flight time.
The key is to fill whatever plane you charter to the max.
