However, i will have to test it out as in the case I'm talking about, drugstore.com gives 5 miles/$spent (using the portal) and 6 points/$spent (for using the citibank premier card)... if I were them, wouldn't this be something I can track?
I do this all the time. Credit card points are not connected to shopping portal points. Citibank is buying those points from CO and they are not linked to shopping thru the portal.
Another example.. Macy's is a Chase double miles partner. So, if I shop thru the portal I get 3 pts/$ from CO and I also get 2 pts/$ from Chase.
1. Hyatt gives me a referal cash back for a link on my site. Use this to get to the Hyatt site. make a reservation through this
2. I buy a gift certificate for Hyatt from giftcertificates.com with my citibank credit card (4 points/$ spent)
3. I use certificate at Hyatt and get points as a paid stay
I've done this a few times & it works, however, I don't have a link on my site. But it should not matter, the points/miles you get from your credit cards have nothing to do with what you receive from Hyatt or Co, or whomever is offering you points/miles via their portal.
I can't comment about the AA scheme, as I'm not at all familiar with their program.
