I personally would prefer your original schedule, taking the risk of maybe 24 hours in L.A.--or even flying domestic on Jan. 6 to have a deliberate 1-day stopover in L.A.
The flight connections MCO/LAX is quite limited, either 6:30am, 8:30 or my original 2:34pm (which is the very tight connection in DEN). I can change the DEN/LAX to an earlier to LAX (arriving at 1300) and spend the afternoon in LA as you have suggested. I'm looking for things to do to for the afternoon in LA. How far is it to drive to LA from LAX? Are there 1/2 day tours?
