I disagree with that statement too (having traveled plenty in the Middle East). I have never found anyplace to be more unsafe for Americans than for anyone else. If you conduct yourself in intelligent fashion, you will be perfectly safe in any place that's not a war zone. And those are unsafe not just for Americans, but for everybody.
