The terminology can be a bit confusing. The FAQ for this forum uses "segment" and "sector" and is consistent in its use of these terms, so that's quite helpful.
The oneworld PDF and oneworld Timetables application refer to "flights" (e.g., up to four flights to explore each of the other continents) and "flight segments" (e.g., up to 20 flight segments on your trip), and does not use the term "sector."
The rules from CX in the Excel file linked from the FAQ do use the term "sector, " but, oddly enough, appear to be using it differently. For example, in section C of Part I, the rules state Max 4 sectors and Max 6 sectors (for North America).
I've always thought of a "flight" as a trip on the same flight number, and a "flight segment" as one take off and one landing for "direct flights" with an intermediate stop, but if I'm going to post here, I need to learn and use the proper terminology to avoid creating confusion.
