Where should I go in Central America?

I am thinking of topping off my GlobalPass account with a few miles from diners Club so I can take weekend run to Central America and use up the last of my miles and be done with this program.

I can start my trip by going to San Salvador nonstop on TACA out of IAD. If I am looking at spending only one night away from home, I was thinking of either Tikal, Guatemala for the ruins or Panama City to visit the Canal. Any recommendations or ideas? Many thanks in advance!
