I would even check my luggage (or gate check it) if I knew it was going to be sent to the baggage carosel quickly. Too often I've sat and waited and waited and waited at the luggage carosel for a bag that should have been there half an hour ago. Gate Checking might work, but I can't see the logistics of an entire flight checking their carry on bags at the gate and expecting to get them back in reasonable time, unless it is a commuter jet.
