There are some obvious things here.

1. An absolute ban on carryons is a non starter. It may be fine for grandma and grandpa, but not for business travelers. I need my papers while aboard the airplane and cannot afford the risk of delay or loss of those materials and my computer, Blackberry, cell phone etc if they are placed in the hold.

2. If the response is a second check at the gate, then hire the personnel to make that happen without delaying flights. We are talking about a relatively massive increase in personnel. That needs to be done without question. 2 hour waits cannot be part of the equation.

3. In short if we want increased security we have to pay for it with dollars not inconvenience. Why is this idea so foreign to governments?
