FREQUENT FLYERS' SUIT MAKES DELTA ACCOUNT

Several Delta frequent flyers are seeking to obtain class-action status for a lawsuit accusing the airline of wrongfully penalizing members who sold or bartered their miles. The suit, filed in January in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York by Delta SkyMiles members, said Delta revoked ‘large numbers of miles’ from their accounts.

Delta, in its formal response to the court, said the penalties were justified for activity that is prohibited by Delta's written rules.

The selling and bartering of miles is at the core of the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs, Allison Haas, Jason Kanefsky and Howard Smith, contend that they seek out mileage brokers because Delta has made it more difficult for SkyMiles members to redeem their miles for travel.

Delta also denied it is difficult for its frequent flyer members to redeem miles.
