Gee, you must realy like the upper deck to not fly on a more convenient date for a flight that far ahead. Personally I would book my preferred date and expect that sometime over the next 6 months the allocates will change as people change their flights etc.

They will always show as blocked. EF has no way of knowing your status. The only way to have row 16 allocated is to call Qantas and ask. If you hold sufficient status, the res agent can send a request to the seating allocation dept and you should have it confirmed or denied within 24 hours. So if you like the upper deck, then its worth the few minutes for the phone call.
