Should one be surprised? DALPA is already in court suing DL over back pay etc for the 1000 pilots on furlough...

This is Delta's punishment for the good deed of maintaining adequate reserves as compared to its competitors. Since as a result DL could, arguably, survive another two years before a bankruptcy is forced, then DALPA's best interest is to siphon off their full ridiculous pay levels for as much of that time as possible. At that point, they can hope the landscape will have changed, and if it's for the worse they'll just deal with it accordingly at that time. There is certainly nothing to convince DALPA that agreeing to lower pay rates now will have any effect on what that 2005 world will demand of them...

Proving to DALPA that they're better off getting on the team NOW versus last-minute is a tough tough sell.
