Base Points are VERY OFTEN 10 point per dollar, except for the RARE promo.

Bonus Points just are usuable for rewards.

For example, I joined hhonors in October 2005, so inside my 12 month rolling period, I have received 164606 points via 10 points per $, the rest of my points in my current point balance are from bonus points, mianly tier bonuses, triple points promo, and now the double points promo(minus the 30,000 cat 4 cert from last night).
