I think (Chunk) your basic idea of carrying a knife for protection is pretty mistaken. It sounds like even you don't believe it would stop a determined attacker/mugger (who wouldn't hesitate) and you don't know if it's legal.

(My point about legality is not necessarily about morality but getting arrested/assaulted as a result is a risk in itself).
