I not only say please and thank you, I do it in the language of the carrier. I can say such basic phrases in a couple of dozen languages and it certainly makes the person I'm talking to happy. All FA's speak English to some degree, but they generally like it when you speak their native language, at least to say please and thank you.

And to my observations, more people say please and thank you in first and biz than do in economy.
