If Cathay thinks it's trans-pacific and that works to anyone's advantage, they should conspire to ticket with Cathay. If trans-atlantic works better, float some trial requests with the other carriers until you get the right answer. Then stop asking, grab the tickets, and enjoy the trip.
The purpose of this thread is not to debate pros and cons for different interpretations of various OW partners. The OP asked about using this route to book an XONE3 that includes Australia. Neither CX or AA allows this but for different reasons. So, having ORD-DEL is to no one's advantage with regards to getting around having to issue a ONE4+.
