I am sorry that holtju2 did not have a good experience. I've stayed at Conrad on many occassions, since it opened, from HH Blue through Diamond, from US$87 to US$ 130+ now. I would say that I did get better treatment as a Diamond (upgrade, lounge access, blah, blah, blah) but I do not feel that they treat non-status guests lesser.

In fact, we were so happy with our stays there that we held our wedding there when we decided to do it in BKK. Our wedding guests took up a fair number of rooms, some we help booked and others done by themselves. All of them had nice things to say and none complained and they are not the type to keep quite if they have any complaints to make.

When upgraded to the corner rooms, I will reject them as I think the standard room layout is much nicer. On the other hand, I certainly would not reject an upgrade to a suite, which did/does happen and not because of the wedding. My preferred is the corner suite with the garden, one floor below the lounge. There are only 4 of these and the last I heard was that one was taken up on a long term basis.

The lounge is not great but we do not have anything to complain. A really good lounge is at Conrad Bali. Lots of drinks to choose from and tons of good finger food. On several occassions, we ended up eating 'dinner' there and then moving on to the restaurants for 'supper'.

I do agree that the English proficiency of some staff are not that high but I think it is pretty much similar across BKK. We should just be a little patient sometimes. The plus is I am sure regardless of the problem, you would get a smile from the staff. The beauty of Thais...

One thing that could do with major improvement is the design of the glass shower, which simply does not contain the water well and the toilet floor is always wet after your shower.
