And, of course, many who have those dreams are injured in high school and college in such a way that their knees or whatever will never be the same - all before earning a penny.

There are lots and lots of people who want to be LEOs. If there weren't the salaries and benefits would go up.

The dream of everyone earning what they are worth to society instead of in the marketplace is a good one ... but it won't ever come true in this culture.
