What it comes down to really, is that the competition to be one of the relatively few who can make the grade at the level of pro football ensures that those who do are rare in their skills. If there were 100 or 1000 who could do the job as well, the price would surely go down.

And, of course, many who have those dreams are injured in high school and college in such a way that their knees or whatever will never be the same - all before earning a penny.

There are lots and lots of people who want to be LEOs. If there weren't the salaries and benefits would go up.

The dream of everyone earning what they are worth to society instead of in the marketplace is a good one ... but it won't ever come true in this culture.
