This happens often! Very common that they ask for a return ticket.
When traveling on e-ticket to the US they tend to ask at check-in (or sometimes at the gate) if I have a print out of my return ticket with me.
And as Tommy and others already stated, lounges are for those having their
own Gold card or are C class ticket holders, that’s it!
