My return from dubai last week was the same old story: upgrades happening, but not for me! there must be some black mark on my gold card. I have flown many carriers to the middle east and asia from the US and the ground staff of this one seems way too jaded to make me feel any sense of loyalty.
I would write and relay your experience to EK - tell them you don't expect special treatment and but that you are considering switching your loyalty to another airline, as it seems others are getting preferential treatement over you on each and every ocassion. Wait and see what happens - they may surprise you.
Otherwise - QR is a great airline.
